This is the week of Bloggiesta, and I’m looking forward to cleaning things up a bit around here. Even though I’ll be twitter chatting and spring cleaning more than I’m on the blog, as well as work commitments I have after hours this week, that doesn’t mean I’m compromising my reading. I’ll just be limited to reading at bedtime. My spring break is also over, so I don’t have as much time on my hands to read as I did last week. It’s Monday, What are You Reading is hosted by Book Journey. It’s a way to share what I’m reading with you, and I want you to share with me what you’re reading this week, too! As Sheila says, you never know where that next great book will come from!
I didn’t quiet get all the books I wanted to read last week finished, so I’m starting with the book I didn’t get to. I hope I’ll get to read another book this week, but I’m not pushing myself unless I find the time.
This week, I’m reading….
We Are Called to Rise: A Novel by Laura McBride
Three lives are bound together by a split-second mistake, and a child’s fate hangs in the balance.
What happens next will test—and restore—your faith in humanity.
Far from the neon lights of the Vegas strip, three lives are about to collide. A middle aged woman attempting to revive her marriage. A returning soldier waking up in a hospital with no memory of how he got there. A very brave eight-year-old immigrant boy.
This is a story about families—the ones we have and the ones we make. It’s a story about America today, where so many cultures and points of view collide and coexist. We Are Called to Rise challenges us to think about our responsibilities to each other and reminds us that no matter how cruel life can be in a given moment, it is ultimately beautiful to live, and live fully.
I was fortunate enough to buy this book while it was on sale for only $1.99 as a Kindle Daily Deal and am happy to finally have begun reading it. So far, I’m really liking it, and I’ll certainly let you know my thoughts when I finish. So, how about you? It’s Monday, so what are you reading?0
